Of the nearly 1 hectares of the Vega Sicilia estate, 000 are devoted to growing vines, with 210 different types of soil and 19 plots with very specific characteristics. The influence of the course of the Douro River and the weather have played a key role in the exceptional use of these soils. 64 of these hectares are used to produce Unico, which spends at least ten years between barrel and bottle, representing one of the longest aging processes in the world. We use new and used 40 liter French and American oak barrels and 225 liter vats. A long and complex, yet wonderful construction of the wines, during which they gain endless nuance, definition, texture and depth over time. This incredible terroir and unique aging process make our wines timeless as they age. 22 is a concentrated, juicy, silky and well-defined vintage. It's an expression that can be enjoyed immediately, but will become amazing over time.
2012 VINEYARD CYCLE: After a somewhat dry winter, spring began with moderate temperatures and abundant rainfall, with some 70,7 liters falling during the month of April (the first stages of vine bud burst), continuing until the beginning of May.
Temperatures then began to rise for the rest of the month, reaching 42ºC in June (June 26-27).
It should be noted that the absence of spring frosts allowed the vineyard to develop properly. The summer was very dry: no rain was recorded in July and only 0,5 liters in August. Temperatures remained high throughout the summer.
It took until the end of September for the rains to help ensure a positive outcome for the ripening process.
Among the notable characteristics, we can mention the sanitary condition, the strong coloring, the very developed tannins and suitable for aging. An excellent vintage.
STORAGE AND RECOMMENDED CONSUMPTION WINDOW: This wine can be drunk now, but it can age up to 40-60 years if stored under ideal conditions of 12-14ºC and 60% relative humidity.
The recommended drinking temperature is 18 ºC.
PRODUCTION: 88.188 bottles of Bordeaux, 3.537 Magnum, 328 Double Magnum, 55 Imperial and 5 Salmanazar.
