Alión comes from carefully selected terroirs, located in the best areas of the DO Ribera del Duero region. The soils complement each other and, together with the same winemaking process used in Vega Sicilia, they have given wines with a firm structure. 2019 was a drier vintage than normal, which was also noted when tasting the grapes. Powerful and concentrated skins, but with a very firm structure.
The work basically started with the extraction to develop a vintage for which we reduced the total vatting time for fermentation to around 11 days. The few batches were refined before being put in barrels and the reduction of the impact of wood and toast is important for this type of cuvée. The addition of concrete allowed us to work on the verticality and the freshness of the wines.
2019 was a powerful, concentrated, juicy vintage, but with a sensual and unctuous side too.
The previous cycle ended with warmer than normal temperatures and the climatic conditions allowed good lignification. Normal spring temperatures accompanied by precipitation allowed a normal bud burst during the second half of April, without any frost being recorded. Total rainfall for the entire wine season was below average.
This wine is drinkable now, but can be kept for up to 20 years if stored under the ideal conditions of: 12-14ºC / 54-57ºF and 60% relative humidity.
The recommended drinking temperature is 18 ºC/64 ºF.
