Macán is a modern and very personal take on the premium wines of the Rioja DOCa region. It is a commitment to finesse, elegance, complexity and power. He is also the standard bearer of Bodegas Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia, the project launched by Tempos Vega Sicilia and Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 2004.
The 2009 vintage was the first to be launched on the market. Knowledge, effort, patience and the desire for constant improvement have made it possible to develop a project that has proven itself. Knowledge, effort, patience and the desire for constant improvement have made it possible to develop a project that currently stands on a 100-hectare property containing high-quality vineyards and state-of-the-art production facilities that combine technology, tradition and innovation.
Macán is made only from grapes of the Tempranillo variety. The grape comes from a meticulous selection of mature plots found on high terraces with poorly developed gravelly clay-limestone soils. The influence of the Atlantic on the 2018 vintage marked this year's wine. A more productive vintage, with very good water reserves; in the end, a wine vintage with a little less substance, but much more freshness and elegance. Harvest took place in October and this is one of those vintages that simply cannot be ignored. We were able to go a little further than normal during the extraction and even slightly increase the weight of the barrels by 5%.
Macán 2018, a vibrant, elegant and subtle vintage. A vintage full of nuances, definition and a feeling of trend.
2018 was a cool and wet year with mild winter temperatures and abundant rainfall, including six snowfalls during the first quarter, allowing the soil to gain significant water reserves. Bud burst was 10 days late, and heavy rainfall and moderate temperatures continued throughout the spring. Maturation was therefore delayed by 2 weeks.
The harvest took place normally, from October 2 to 14.
