In the end, wine will be what man wanted it to be. Its value will be that of the one who created it.
Brand: Tinto Pesquera Millenium Gran Reserva
Alcohol content: 15% vol
Grape variety: 100% Tempranillo
Total production: 11.300 bottles of 75cl
Vineyard: Viña Alta Cascajo 5,2 hec.
Origin of the grapes: South-facing vineyard, located in the municipality of Pesquera de Duero, at more than 800 meters above sea level.
Soils: The soil is composed of a mixture of pebbles, gravel and sand. This sandy-gravelly soil combines with surface pebbles to create an early-ripening terroir that produces the high-quality wine characteristics sought by the winery. The low fertility of these soils ensures naturally low yields, conducive to the production of excellent quality wines.
Climate: 2018 began with a typically cold winter in Ribera del Duero, during which temperatures dropped to 12°C below zero. This cold weather continued until early spring, and yet, despite the conditions, budburst of the vines took place on the usual dates, at the end of April. After a very dry 2017, a wet period set in at the end of winter, then it rained continuously throughout the spring, making 2018 an officially very wet year in our region. The growth of the vine vegetation was favored by the mild temperatures and the water reserves in the soil, which made it possible to obtain significantly larger berries. As a result of this increase in the size of the berries, and despite higher than usual temperatures in September and October, the ripening process slowed down. The harvest lasted until the end of October and produced an exceptional harvest both in terms of quantity and quality. The absence of precipitation in the latter part of the growing season also made it possible to harvest healthy grapes. The 2018 harvest is actually the second largest on record, surpassed only by 2016.
Vinification: Millenium is an elegant wine and the most beautiful expression of a Gran Réserva, whose grapes are harvested on our Vina Alla plot. The vineyard soils, sandy with pebbles on the surface (the result of erosion and sedimentation of the Duero River over thousands of years), provide a perfect subsoil layer for the Tempranillo to offer fruit and balance. wonderful. The wine is aged for 26 months in French oak barrels, which gives it spicy aromas, structure and finesse. Millenium is a harmoniously balanced, complex wine with great aging potential, which is the hallmark of the wines produced in our cellar.
Wine and food pairings: Goes very well with stews, red meat and mature cheeses.
