Quiñón de Valmira 2019 is made from Grenache and 10% other traditional varieties grown in a unique vineyard located at an altitude of 616 meters above sea level. It is fermented with whole bunches and grapes. Native yeasts in oak vats, then aged in bocoyes and oak tuns for 16 months.
The alcohol content of this wine is “only” 13,5% vol. (rather weak for a Garnacha), which prompted me to ask Palacios how such a low alcohol wine can be produced in such a hot and dry year.
He explained that the red soils are only eight inches deep and from there everything is chalky white.
These white soils are cold soils and their wines are also low lying with low alcohol content, but they develop very intense flavors and aromas.
The wines are lively, vibrant and deep, with penetrating aromas of supreme finesse with the red fruit of Garnacha mixed with limestone which gives it an incredible elegance and sensations with an almost tasty finish.
It contains more fruit than flowers, unlike the 2018, but with a similar level of quality.
Bottled in April 2021.
With a production of 3 bottles, 914 magnums and 110 double magnums.
