Why El Espino?
The classic style of Ribera del Duero suggests grandiloquent, intense, powerful and fruity wines. This is the style that identified the AOC. Today, a new trend is emerging in the world, which seeks to reconcile this style with more elegance, sophistication, delicacy and balance. This is what El Espino brings: a contemporary Ribera that combines vigor and elegance, power and delicacy, terroir and distinction. Slender, graceful, charming. Contemporary and vibrant
Harvest: The mild weather allowed early bud burst. The start of summer was cool and wet, conditions which regulated the load on the vines, reducing their production. In October, the cold and dry temperatures, with a strong oscillation of day-night temperatures allowed slow and gradual ripening and a harvest officially classified as “Excellent”.
Vineyards, varieties and aging: our 87 hectares of Tinta del País are made up of a puzzle of plots, slopes, orientations and soils that bring heterogeneity and richness to the wines. El Espino is a selection of plots from the Áster estate which seeks to combine vigor and elegance, power and delicacy, terroir and distinction. On October 3, we started the harvest, in 20 kg boxes, passing all the grapes through optical selection. Cold maceration brought out the varietal aromas and bright colors.
After blending the El Espino, Fuentecojo and El Picón plots, the malolactic fermentation took place in vats and dual purpose French oak barrels. The aging took place in French oak barrels, 20% of which were new, for twelve months, with two manual rackings. After four months in tank, it was bottled in September 2022.
Food/wine pairings: Ideal to enjoy by the glass, to serve as an aperitif or to accompany pasta dishes, rice dishes, sushi, light meats and fish.
Tasting: Medium-high ruby color with a crisp cherry red edge. On the nose, it stands out for the expression of black fruits with notes of blueberry, blackberry, red plum, licorice, cardamom and mineral notes accompanied by moderate notes of aging: coffee bean, caramel and can of chocolates. The palate is deep and balanced, remarkable for its freshness and elegance. It has a persistent fruity aftertaste. A full-bodied, flavoursome wine with remarkable contemporary riverside character, at an optimal tasting moment.
Serving temperature: 17ºC.
