Subtlety, elegance, finesse, delicacy, silky.
Harvest: The good weather that reigned throughout the cycle favored an excellent vegetative and sanitary state of our grapes, achieving a balance in all its components, especially in the grapes coming from vines located at higher altitudes, in areas fresher and with moderate vigour. At the end of the maturation process, we had days with a great difference in temperature, sunny mornings and very cold nights, which made it possible to obtain a very balanced final maturation. The wines obtained are distinguished above all by their Atlantic character, their elegant acidity, their intense fruitiness and their very silky and balanced tannins, which gives them excellent aging conditions.
Vineyards, varieties and aging: The base variety is Tempranillo (90%) from a selection of our estates in Villalba, Briñas and Rodezno, as well as 10% Graciano from the Montecillo de Fuenmayor estate. We started the harvest with the Tempranillo and 23 days later we harvested the Graciano de Montecillo.
We transported all the refrigerated harvest in small crates, preserving its integrity. For the first time, we optically selected all the grapes for this wine, berry by berry, keeping only those that met our strictest quality parameters. The alcoholic fermentation took place for 21 days in tanks, where the malolactic fermentation also took place. In January 2016 we selected the best wines to age them in our own American oak barrels with an average age of 4,5 years, where they remained for 4 years, racked according to the traditional method every 6 months, until bottling in February 2020.
Pairing: Particularly recommended with all kinds of meats and stews, spicy fish, desserts with chocolate or red fruit filling.
Perfect at the end of a meal.
Tasting: Medium-high color with an elegant garnet rim at the end of the glass. Great breadth of aromas, highlighting notes of wild strawberry, red cherry, plum, blackberry and cranberry, which combine with aromas of tobacco, brioche, ground coffee, caramel, cedar and cinnamon flower. On the palate, it stands out for its elegant balance between alcohol and acidity, its freshness and its polished and pleasant tannins which give it a refined mid palate. The finish is fine, delicate and very long, and the stay in the bottle will continue to complement it, making this new Gran Reserva 904 a wine with great aging capacity.
